TDK Corporation has announced its support of Ilfracombe Academy’s Young Enterprise team, Having already attended two trade fairs, the school’s Wood On Waves team presented its Better Our Beaches vintage bodyboards at the regional Young Enterprise Final at the Met Office in Exeter, The competition involved teams running their own mini-business to develop a product or service and market it in a real-world environment.
the final stage of the competition, which involved them pitching their businesses to a panel of judges via a company report, trade stand and formal PowerPoint-style presen tation, Young Enterprise plays a vital role in providing financial education and experience to young people – companies across Devon benefit greatly from the talent on offer, “Wood On Waves is truly an inspirational group of young people,” said Paul Swan, finance director at TDK-Lambda UK “Their passion, work ethic and determination to succeed has impressed throughout. “They are a shining example of the workplace skills and confidence developed
by young people through participation in such programmes!’ During the South West Young Enterprise final, Wood On Waves presented its range of environmentally-friendly surf-related products that celebrate
the beauty of North Devon, Led by Maya Nardoni. the team won Best Company Presentation. Richard Vale, a teacher at Ilfracombe Academy, said: “Working With the business advisors has enabled the students to become familiar with a professional environment and the whole year has been a thoroughly worthwhile experience, which I would recommend to any school or college.”
Wood on Waves also won commendation at the NDMA awards this year.
