On Thursday 22 June, the University Centre at Petroc welcomed around three hundred businesses, stakeholders and members of the local community to a Marine Futures event held at our South West Institute of Technology (SWIoT).
Petroc worked alongside North Devon Council and Torridge District Council to inform and engage local businesses, schools, teachers, students and parents about the emerging opportunities in exciting new areas such as Floating Offshore Wind (FLOW), green hydrogen and aquaculture.
During the morning, the business conference included speakers from the Crown Estate, Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult (ORE), local business TCi and the National Composites Centre. Speakers presented the upcoming ‘green and marine’ developments in and around the Celtic Sea and how local businesses can be an integral part of the supply chain. The need for a skilled local workforce and encouraging people to study locally and grow their careers in the area was highlighted as key to these developments.
