Make UK Mid-Year Policy Wins 2020
The first half of 2020 has proved to be a year of challenges and changes for UK manufacturing. Despite Covid-19 hitting our sector hard, manufacturers have risen to the challenge and responded. Attached is a copy of our 2020 Mid-Year Policy Wins which shows the impact Make UK – with invaluable support from our partners and members – has had in influencing Government policy.
Manufacturing Outlook Q3 Survey
As you know, Make UK produce a quarterly report – Manufacturing Outlook – which looks at the state of the sector, with a specific focus on orders and output. We have just launched the Q3 Manufacturing Outlook survey – as usual the more manufacturers that contribute and the more diverse the range of contributors, the stronger the end report. Members are encouraged to complete the survey, we would be most grateful. The survey can be accessed HERE It will be open until the 19th August.
Skills Survey
Make UK are carrying out a piece of work, looking at how the latest digital and technological skills are key to business recovery post-COVID and how upskilling will turbo-charge businesses as they come back to full production. We have set up a short survey to ensure our work is fully informed and would be grateful for your assistance in generating responses. Members and stakeholders are encouraged to participate in the survey. We are particularly interested in hearing some brief detail about what manufacturing businesses have put in place. Furlough update: redundancy pay, notice pay and HMRC penalties
A new law was brought in on the 30th July to ensure that furloughed employees who are subsequently dismissed will receive statutory redundancy pay and statutory notice pay based on their normal wages, rather than on the reduced rate of pay payable under the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (the Scheme). The Government has also published guidance on HMRC’s powers to impose penalties on employers who have claimed sums under the Scheme to which they are not entitled and have failed to repay these or notify HMRC of the overclaim.
